August 30, 1947 to August 22, 2011

OGDEN - Dale L. Code was born August 30, 1947 in Rock Springs, Wyoming. He passed away in peace, holding the hands of his loving wife and children at University of Utah hospital on August 22, 2011.

In 1967, Dale met the love of his life, Sharilee Wilson, at a corner drug store in Ogden. They have been soul mates ever since. On June 26, 1969 Dale and Shar were married at St. James Church in Ogden. Just 11 months later, their first daughter, Colette, was born. In 1971, they welcomed their second daughter, Shawna, and in 1975 they completed their family with the addition of their first son, Brent. In addition to his wife and children, Dale took great joy in his four grandsons: Tyler, Codey, Brendon, and Ashton and openly welcomed two sons-in-law to his family (Shawn and Chris) as his own children. Dale also considered many pets his family, most recently Jazz, Tori, Kallie, Rusty, and Tuffy.

Dale attended Ben Lomond High School but left before graduating to join the U.S. Marine Corps, where he proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He was honored with many military awards during his career, most notably a marksmanship award and two Purple Heart Awards. He was honorably discharged from the Marines and returned to Ogden where he married Shar and started his family. Because education was important to Dale, he went back to school and earned his high school diploma; he then graduated from Weber State College with an Associate's Degree and was just seven credits shy of earning a Bachelor's Degree. Dale worked at Hill Air Force Base for 36 years as a Program Manager and he was proud of his many work-related accomplishments and certifications. He was also fortunate enough to make many lifelong friends at HAFB.

Dale loved the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, camper, and wanderer (although he had an uncanny sense of direction, and never got lost). He grew up exploring The Wind River Range and Pinedale, Wyoming. He enjoyed his many fishing trips to Alaska. He loved being at his cabin in the Uinta Mountains of Utah and more recently exploring the desert areas around Mesquite, Nevada. Most of these adventures and explorations were done in the good company of his family and friends and of course, his devoted wife, Shar.

Dale is survived by his beautiful wife, Sharilee Code; his first daughter and her family, Colette, Shawn, Tyler, and Codey Albretsen; his second daughter and her husband, Shawna and Chris Rowley; and his first and only son and his boys, Brent, Brendon, and Ashton Code; his sister Barbara Greiner; his biological father, Rex Sonnenfelt, and many favorite nieces, nephews, extended family, and very close friends. Dale's family was important to him and he loved spending time with all of them, whether it was at the cabin, barbecuing on the back deck, or exploring the world.

Dale was preceded in death by his Grandma and Grandpa Shedden (who he lived with for a time in Rock Springs), his mother Miriam S. Code, his father James E. Code, his sister Nadine Code Jensen McFarland and his faithful canine companions. His family takes comfort in knowing these family members have welcomed him into their arms.

Funeral Services were held on August 26 at Myers Mortuary Chapel, Ogden, Utah. A viewing was held on Thursday evening at the mortuary and again on Friday prior to the service. Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery.
